Cape Town – A Parklands man who was instrumental in the arrest of Brian Wainstein, the man dubbed the “steroid king” for allegedly dealing in steroids, has been charged with robbery. Robert Matthey, 32, of Parklands, appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. His 67-year-old mother, Eleonora Matthey, of Hermanus, stood alongside her son in the dock on a charge of common assault . But after lunch, the prosecution withdrew the case against her. A SUSPECTED international steroid dealer, on Interpol’s wanted list and previously sentenced in Ireland for illegally selling the drug, is now the centre of a court case in Cape Town. Brian Wainstein, dubbed the “steroid king” and who went by aliases including Brian Benjamin, was arrested in the city in January. Cape Town – Diamond trader Dudley Bernicchi is relieved that he has been acquitted of murdering a diamond dealer in his office in the Picbel Parkade about two years ago. Bernicchi said his family and business had taken strain after Ryan Ivaniservic was killed on November 2, 2011. “(But) at the end of the day there was a loss of life and I feel for that family. GOLDBERG TO APPEAL JAIL TERM

THE Cape Town Regional Court yesterday granted ivory dealer Mark Goldberg leave to appeal a five-year jail sentence for possessing and selling ivory worth more than R30 million. After Magistrate Wilma van der Merwe sentenced the 52-year-old to seven years’ imprisonment, two suspended for five years, Goldberg’s advocate Reuben Liddell successfully applied for leave to appeal. R2.8M DRUG BUST IN WC

CAPE TOWN – Western Cape police say two Table View women will remain in custody after drugs worth R2.8 million were found hidden in the ceiling of their flat. Officials confiscated 70,000 Mandrax tables at the property this week. R700,000 possibly generated through their drug trade was also found. Provincial police spokesman Andre Traut says, “Using a crime intelligence driven operation in Table View, two sisters, aged 50 and 31 respectively, were arrested for being in the possession of Mandrax tablets to the value of R2.8 million. Cape Town – Three men and a woman arrested for possession of drugs estimated at more than R1 million were released from custody on bail of R10 000 each. Thomas Wiesner, 51, Stefania Moralli, 31, Bastian Gammerlich, 32, and Lukas Hoppe, 26, made their first appearance in the Somerset West Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
